About the Donnell Farm

Donnell Roots Run Deep

In 1835, John Donnell moved his family to Tennessee to what would become the Madison County village of Spring Creek. The land was fertile and promised to be ripe for growing cotton and corn. His mule driven cotton gin could gin a bale on a good day. John Donnell, his wife and several children are buried in the family cemetery back on the 'Ole Place'. For six generations Donnell families have raised their children and cropped portions of this very same Donnell land.

Billy and Rose Ann (McCallum) Donnell along with their son Andrew, his wife Jessica and their son Callum, live on this real working farm. Young Callum is the 7th generation to live on the Donnell family farm. They also farm their Peter McCallum farm which has been owned and farmed by the McCallum family for over 100 years.

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has listed this farm as a Tennessee Century Farm, continuously farmed by the Donnell family for over 150 years.

Today, the DONNELL FARM produces registered Angus cattle, cotton, soybeans, corn and hay. Century old production methods have been replaced by GPS, artificial insemination, ultra-sound of ribeyes, biotechnology and no-till farming.

While this farm business is the livelihood of the Donnell family, it is Rose Ann's desire to help us reconnect with our rich agricultural heritage. Donnell Century Farm specializes in a wide range of wholesome farm experiences for groups, and families. It's mission is to provide a Down on the Farm opportunity for students. teachers, children, families and other groups to experience agriculture like never before. These educational field trips, farm tours, festivals and special family days are our effort to celebrate Agriculture.

It is with a hopeful heart we present a look at agriculture as it was and as it is today, 'From Farm Gate to Dinner Plate.' We invite you to our place where you can celebrate your agricultural past. A time when EVERYONE grew what they ate!

COME, bring the children and celebrate with us.
We will be 'Making Memories' down on the farm.
