Things to See and Do

barnyard animals

1. Barnyard animals

What is the one thing a farm needs? The answer is animals of course. Our live animals are on the farm not in a zoo.

Children are fascinated with the turkey's beard and the drumming sound an old tom makes as he struts his stuff. Who can keep from laughing as the donkey brays? All eyes are on the calf as he takes his bottle. Kittens, chicks, ducklings and roosters all bring smiles of delight. Real live animals, touch them, pet them, hold them, feed them and brush them, it's all part of the experience.

2. The Goat Ramp (our new attraction)

Farm venues across the USA report the goat walk as a favorite attraction. We have enjoyed watching our Billy Bob as he scampered up the Hay Climb and then kick his heels as he jumped down again. New this year is OUR goat ramp where goats big and small literally walk the plank. Our goats are not trained, they naturally love to climb. If they find it they will climb it. You can pull the rope up to the goat platform as you hoist up a quarters worth of feed. It is great fun watching them move across the planks to another feeding station.

3. Farm Basket Adventure

Plant your corn and gather it to feed the cows and chickens. Take a journey to the barn with the cow that never kicks, the hens that never peck and the potatoes that never sprout. Children become part of their agricultural heritage as they fill their basket with foods grown on the farm. Milk a cow, gather an egg, pick a tomato, dig a potato - its a fun way to learn how we grow the food and fiber we need to live. The concept of food production, distribution and consumption comes to life as the young farmers sell their crops and food at the Farmers Market.

4. Corn Palace

Scoup, measure, and pour in the gigantic boxes filled with bushels of shelled corn. Children of all ages, even the adults, love to climb in and play in the corn which feels so cool and refreshing.

5. Hay Climb

No child can resist climbing to the top of the big hay mound to announce, “I’m king of the mountain.”
In the fall ALL classes will harvest cotton in the field behind our home. Lessons and activities will vary with grade levels.

6. Science based GERM CITY

Share the FUN at this award winning hand-washing station. This entertaining experience helps you look differently at an invisible problem: germs. How does it work?

It all begins as you are asked to cover your hands with a non-toxic lotion that glows under black lights.

germ city

After one trip through Germ City - a long 8' black tunnel filled with glow-in-the dark streamers and other objects-- everyone washes their hands. It's all FUN as you re-enter the tunnel to see if there is a trace of the "pretend germs" you might have missed. Regardless of your success everyone is instructed in proper handwashing procedures. This science based activity really works! Who is the best hand-washer in your group?

Germ City

Students apply a nontoxic lotion that glows under black lights. When they enter the exhibit’s 8-foot tunnel, black-lights light up the pretend “germs” on their hands. After they wash their hands they enter the tunnel again. If they’ve effectively washed their hands, the lotion no longer appears and the pretend germs are gone. Regardless of their success they are instructed in proper handwashing procedures.

Children learn they must wash tops and bottoms, around nails and between fingers. Singing a fun song or rap the entire time they wash their hands helps them realize correct handwashing takes more than a few seconds of time.

7. The Handwashing Fountain

“You gotta wash your hands, you gotta wash them right”
If ever there was a place where children can literally play in a fountain, it’s our Handwashing Fountain.

Our original design fountain with it’s arching streams of water make handwashing an exciting experience. This fun station is a part of our Germ City adventure and ALWAYS follows our Animal Barnyard Tour.

Handwashing is a requirement on our farm venue. Our policy is: If you visit the animals then you MUST wash your hands!

This is the place where memories are made!
